On Thursday April 5, 2012 Prague Airport will reach a historic milestone when it celebrates 75 years since its opening. Prague Airport is currently the largest and the most modern airport in the Czech Republic. A lot has changed during those 75 years of operation thanks to the rapid development of air travel. The airport has seen a considerable growth in the number of passengers passing through its gates every year as well as in the number of flight connections. Together with the increase in traffic Prague Airport has also managed to build a fantastic reputation worldwide and establish itself as a major hub in Central Europe.
In its 75 years of existence Prague Airport has handled 201 million passengers and more than 4 million civil flights. In 2011 Prague Airport joined a prestigious group of world airports when it won the Eagle Award from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). This “air travel Oscar” was awarded to the airport mainly due to its considerable development, high customer satisfaction levels and positive attitude towards air travel companies. Its pleasant ambiance and outstanding customer service is appreciated by travellers from all over the world. This was recognised when Prague Airport secured first place in the international public opinion poll World Airport Awards in 2005, 2007 and 2009.
