Jenufa represents the climax of Janácek´s original thinking in music and music technique and is closely linked with hic character and life. It composed for the drama written by Gabriela Preissová, the essence of which is profound human understanding of the destiny of man, his conflicts and moulding by his environment and society. The deep lyrism of Jenufa contrasts with Kostelnicka´s harshness, who - afraid of scorn - commits murder. Janácek´s score captures all moments of the drama as far as the deep emotional stresses of men who after cruel trials find a new sense of life.
