Přemysl Otakar II founded the Cistercian Monastery in 1263, to somewhat restrict expansion of House Rosenberg. Later on, its monks significantly contributed to colonization of local region. The monastery was severely damaged by Hussites and its substantial restoration followed only in the 17th century, in the time of Baroque. Another cruel blow was the mass dissolution of monasteries ordered by Emperor Joseph II in 1785. Despite the following callous use as farming grounds, many precious Gothic and Baroque survived to be restored in the 20th century.
